Scola Climbs the ladder
Alex Scola stopped 43/45 and 3/3 in the shootout to lead the Fehervar AV19 MOL Liga Titans to a 3-2 win and get their first win of the playoffs. Fehervar MOL team was down 2-0 in their first round playoff series vs the 1st place MAC Budapest and now has life again trailing 2 - 1.
Scola, "Scoles" , formerly a NCAA D3 goaltender, has primarily been the backup this year but has patiently waited for his opportunity and has been the hardest worker on the team all season.
Scola, entered game 1 of the series in relief during a 7-1 defeat. Scoles was given the start in game 2 and gave the MOL Liga Fehervar Titans confidence leading them to an overtime loss of 3-2. He was rock solid all game making several big saves in overtime. In Games 2 and 3 he proved the eigth seeded Titans could play against the first seeded MAC Budapest and has now given them a chance in the series. His game 3 performace was nothing short of spectacular making severalk huge saves and having incredible rebound control during key situations. They were outshot 45-31 thourgh 60 minutes and 10 minutes of overtime but the game remained 2-2. In the shootout Scola was unflappable stopping all 3 MAC attempts giving Fehervar the victory with 1 goal on 3 shootout attempts.
Its amazing how playoffs can prove the old saying that "Goaltending is everything". Game 4 is Monday night in Fehervar.
